What is Ampguard
Ampguard is a rogue-like game with a unique combat system and nasty monsters. In order to win you need to combine your skills and use them in the best possible way. Only then you may emerge victorious from the battle against the yokai.
Ampguard was developed over the course of one year for the annual beta Mittweida event of the University of applied science Mittweida.
About the game
Ampguard is a roguelike in which you must start over from the beginning of every round. The only thing you’ll carry over to the next round is your understanding of the abilities and foes.
The combat is designed to be fast paste and furious, with a lot of enjoyment provided by the perfect mix of upgrades. Players have five skills at their disposal. Each of those skills can be infused with one amplifier that points to one of the other four skills.
The power of the upgrades will be increased each time the player channels one of the highlighted skills. The chain will be broken if a skill that is not pointed to is activated.
Your aim is to complete each stage and destroy the huge yokai that awaits at the end. Do this three times in a row to end the game and register your own time in the game’s records.
My role
During the beta 2021, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a trainee and have a better understanding of what the coming year may hold for me. I worked in the technical department, mostly on abilities, editor tools, and asset implementation. In the end, I was given a chance to create my own visual effects and implement sound effects into the game. Overall it was a very pleasant experience that pushed me forward on my game-dev journey.
